Outrage as 20-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Beaten to Death by Husband in Domestic Violence Incident

The alleged killing of a 20-year-old woman by her husband in Nasarawa State has sparked renewed concern over the persistent scourge of domestic violence against women in Nigeria.
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 30-year-old Musbawu Amodu for allegedly beating his wife to death following a domestic dispute in the Angwan Yahaya area of Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspect was arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division alleging that he had assaulted his wife, leading to her death.
Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he attacked his wife in a fit of anger after she allegedly refused to prepare food. What reportedly began as an argument escalated into a violent assault that claimed the life of the young woman.
The victim, who was only 20 years old, leaves behind two children—a boy and a girl—from their six-year marriage.
The incident has reignited concerns about the growing number of women who lose their lives to domestic violence. Women’s rights advocates have repeatedly called for stronger enforcement of existing laws, increased public awareness, and improved support systems to protect victims before abuse escalates into fatal violence.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, condemned the alleged killing, describing it as tragic and avoidable. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and assured the public that anyone found responsible for such crimes would face the full weight of the law.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, after which he is expected to be charged in court.
