Lagos Police Take Over Toddler Abuse Case, Arrest Father
The Lagos State Police Command has taken over the investigation into the alleged abuse of a 20-month-old toddler, Kodijah Adeneka, allegedly perpetrated by her father, Idris Damilare Adeneka, at Gberigbe, Orelope Araromi area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The alleged incident occurred on September 21, 2026, and was reported to the Advocacy for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN) on September 22 by a mandated reporter.
According to the report, the case was initially incidented at the Neighborhood Watch Office in Imota, Ikorodu, following concerns over the alleged abuse of the toddler.
The mandated reporter had expressed concern about the handling of the matter and called for the case to be transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, GRA, Ikeja, for proper investigation and protection of the child.
However, the Lagos State Police Command has now taken over the case, while the alleged perpetrator, Idris Damilare Adeneka, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The development followed concerns raised by child protection advocates over the need for the matter to be handled by the appropriate police unit with expertise in gender-based violence and child protection.
ACVPN has called for a thorough investigation into the allegations and urged the authorities to ensure that the welfare and safety of the 20-month-old child remain a priority throughout the investigation.
The organisation also urged the police to ensure that the investigation is conducted professionally and that all parties connected to the case are treated in accordance with the law.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse and the specific charges, if any, against the suspect will be subject to the outcome of the police investigation.
