How Police Rescued Baby Allegedly Sold For ₦4.5m To Lawyer In Lagos

The baby allegedly stolen shortly after birth in Imo State was rescued in Lagos after police investigators traced the child to a lawyer who reportedly paid ₦4.5 million for the newborn, according to details shared by social media activist VeryDarkMan.
VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, said the rescue followed a coordinated investigation carried out by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) after the baby’s mother reported the incident.
According to him, the mother approached his office on April 25, 2026, alleging that her newborn had been taken away after delivery at a hospital in Owerri.
The activist said he immediately took the matter to the STS command in Guzape, Abuja, where the case was assigned for investigation.
He explained that police operatives moved to Imo State on April 26 and arrested a suspect linked to the alleged child trafficking arrangement.
Following interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the baby had already been sold to a lawyer for ₦4.5 million.
The confession reportedly provided investigators with the information needed to track the movement of the child and identify the location where the baby was being kept.
Police operatives subsequently extended the operation to Lagos, where the lawyer was apprehended and the baby rescued safely.
According to VeryDarkMan, the child was recovered alive and all individuals connected to the transaction were taken into custody for further questioning.
He added that the suspects and the rescued baby were later moved to Abuja as authorities prepared for the formal reunification of the child with the biological mother.
The case sparked widespread reactions after the baby’s mother, identified as Chioma, shared her account in a viral video online.
Chioma alleged that after delivering her baby on April 7, 2026, a woman identified as Chinelo disappeared with the newborn while she briefly stepped away from the hospital ward.
She further claimed that she later discovered ₦1.5 million had been deposited into her account before being informed that the child had already been sold.
Authorities are yet to issue a detailed official statement, while investigations into the alleged baby trafficking network continue.
