Not Under My Watch: CP Ojajuni Vows Zero Tolerance for Baby Factories, Human Trafficking in Ogun

  1. The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has vowed to intensify the fight against baby factories, human trafficking and child exploitation, declaring that the state will not become a safe haven for criminal networks preying on women and children.
Ojajuni gave the assurance following the discovery of an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, where operatives of the Mowe Division rescued two pregnant women and four children and arrested six suspects allegedly linked to human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The operation, which followed sustained intelligence gathering on activities at a facility on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, underscores the command’s renewed resolve to protect vulnerable persons and dismantle criminal syndicates operating within the state.
The two pregnant women rescued during the operation were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who is seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who is eight months pregnant. The four children rescued comprised two boys and two girls.
The suspects arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
Commending the operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency, CP Ojajuni said the development underscored the importance of sustained intelligence gathering and community vigilance in combating crimes targeting vulnerable persons.
The Commissioner declared that the Ogun State Police Command would not allow the state to become a haven for baby factories, human traffickers or other criminal networks involved in child exploitation and related offences.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide the police with credible information about suspicious activities within their communities, stressing that timely information could assist security agencies in preventing crimes and protecting vulnerable persons.
Further intelligence-led investigations took detectives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
According to the police, Effiong was receiving medical treatment when operatives discovered that the whereabouts of her newborn could not be accounted for. The attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya, was subsequently arrested as investigations continued to locate the missing baby.
The Commissioner said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged syndicate and efforts to recover the missing newborn.
Ojajuni reiterated that the command remained committed to protecting children, women and other vulnerable members of society, assuring residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to identify, disrupt and prosecute individuals and networks involved in human trafficking and child exploitation.
He called on members of the public to support the police by providing useful and timely information capable of disrupting criminal activities before they escalate, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to making Ogun State safer for all.
