International Youth Day: Channel Your Energy, Time into Productive Ventures, Shun Violence, Thuggery — CP Ojajuni Admonishes Youths

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has admonished youths to channel their energy, time and talents into productive ventures that will contribute to their personal development and the progress of society, rather than allowing themselves to be used for violence, thuggery and other criminal activities.
CP Ojajuni gave the charge as the Ogun State Police Command launched a statewide youth sensitisation campaign tagged “My Future is Better than Political and Digital Thuggery” to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day in Abeokuta.
The initiative, which focused on youth empowerment, responsible citizenship and crime prevention, was organised in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that no political ambition is worth the life or future of any Nigerian youth.
The campaign commenced with a sensitisation walkathon involving personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and representatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Fire Service, Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Youth Council and other youth and civil society organisations.
The second phase featured a high-level youth engagement session held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, in partnership with the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
Representing CP Ojajuni at the engagement, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Adeoye Olugbemiga, urged youths to reject cultism, cybercrime, drug abuse, political violence and other activities capable of jeopardising their future.
He encouraged them to pursue education, entrepreneurship, digital skills and other legitimate opportunities that would enable them to become productive members of society.
The engagement was held under the global theme, “Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future.”
Delivering the keynote address, legal practitioner and youth advocate, Dr. Kayode Akinsola, said genuine youth empowerment should go beyond the distribution of handouts, stressing the importance of capacity building, digital literacy, mentorship and the inclusion of young people in decision-making.
He urged youths to move from passive consumption to active participation, challenging them to shift “from scrolling to creating, from complaining to contributing.”
The programme also featured an interactive panel discussion involving DCP Olugbemiga, Lt. Col. P. L. Ebaji of the 35 Artillery Brigade, UN Award winner, Amb. Habeeb Whyte, and Skillup Summit Convener, Mrs. Queen Joy Adeola Oluyege.
The panellists discussed civic responsibility, resilience, personal development and the responsibility of successful youths to create opportunities for others.
During the question-and-answer session, young participants raised questions concerning civic space, police-youth relations and personal growth.
The Ogun State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ojajuni, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community policing through school outreach, youth mentorship and digital literacy initiatives.
The Command also called on parents, educators, community leaders and other stakeholders to support efforts aimed at guiding youths away from criminal networks, political manipulation and violence.
The campaign further underscored the Command’s position that protecting the future of young Nigerians requires sustained engagement, mentorship, education and collaboration between security agencies and the communities they serve.
CP Ojajuni’s message to the youths was clear: their energy, time, talents and creativity are valuable resources that should be invested in ventures capable of building a better future, rather than being diverted into violence, thuggery and other activities that could destroy their lives and undermine the peace of the society.
