_Enugu, Nigeria_ β The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed two separate gruesome murder incidents in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, both involving the alleged beheading of family members on 15th May 2026.
According to a press release from the Command, police operatives attached to the Igbo-Etiti Division responded to the first incident at about 3:10 p.m. in Nkporogwu Ukehe Community. There, officers allege that 40-year-old Anikwe Onyebuchi used a cutlass to behead and kill his 60-year-old mother, Anikwe Felicia.
The victimβs corpse and severed head were recovered at the scene and taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed her dead. The remains were later deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Police said the suspect was rescued and rearrested after the attack.
The Command also reported a second incident in the same LGA, stating that another suspect died after allegedly beheading his sister and her child. Details on the circumstances surrounding that case and the suspectβs death were not included in the release.
Both incidents occurred in different communities within Igbo-Etiti LGA on the same day. The Command has not yet disclosed the motive behind the attacks or whether mental health issues were a factor.
