Delta Police Rescue Abducted Two-Year-Old in Warri, Reunite Child With Parents

The Delta State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old child allegedly abducted in Warri and reunited the victim with the parents following a swift operation by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS).
The rescue operation, which took place on May 10, 2026, at about 9:15 a.m. at Igbudu Market, Warri, also led to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect identified as Fejiro Obaduemu of Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect was intercepted by vigilant residents while allegedly carrying the child concealed inside a sack bag, thereby raising suspicion of child theft.
Edafe stated that before the suspect could be lynched by the mob, operatives of the QRS swiftly intervened, rescued both the suspect and the child, and evacuated them from the scene.
“The suspect, who sustained injuries from the mob attack, was taken to the Police Clinic, Warri, for treatment and subsequently taken into police custody for investigation,” the statement said.
The police further disclosed that investigations carried out on May 11 led to the successful tracing of the child’s parents, after which the victim was formally reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed that he was sent by another unidentified suspect in Warri to steal the child.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the alleged accomplice and dismantle criminal networks involved in child trafficking and related crimes across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating child trafficking, human trafficking, and related offences.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line: 08036684974.
The Command noted that the latest operation forms part of intensified efforts to tackle child stealing and illegal child trafficking activities in Delta State.
