A wanted kidnapping suspect, Abubakar Usman, has been captured in Delta State following a coordinated rescue operation that led to the safe recovery of a kidnap victim, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest axis.
Mrs. Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, was abducted on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku, with her captors reportedly demanding a ransom of N100 million from her family.
The breakthrough came after security operatives, acting on intelligence, launched a rescue operation that resulted in her release alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road. Following her rescue, a manhunt was immediately intensified for the fleeing kidnappers.
According to Harrison Gwamnishu of SafeCity Security Service, the operation continued through the night until about 6:45 a.m. on the following day, when surveillance technology tracked the gang to their hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
A gun duel reportedly followed as a combined security team confronted the suspects. During the exchange, Abubakar Usman, described as one of the most wanted members of the gang, was apprehended, while other members of the criminal group escaped deeper into the forest with their firearm.
Investigations have linked Usman and his gang to several kidnapping incidents across Igbodo, Umunede and neighbouring communities, where they allegedly extorted millions of naira from victims’ families as ransom.

Gwamnishu commended the efforts of the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor, for its role in the operation. He also expressed appreciation to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for providing what he described as an enabling environment for security operations in the state.
He further thanked the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, officers and men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, as well as DSP Paul Xdot, for their support and commitment to the rescue mission.
Also acknowledged for their roles in the operation were members of the Nigeria Forest Security Service Area Command Office led by DC Admin Ebube Jegbefume, members of the Ubulu-Uku Anti-Cult Group, Ward 5B Councillor Hon. Okocha Martins, Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area Pastor Jude Chukwuweike, and the Mayor of Orumba South LGA in Anambra State, Hon. Shadrack Azubuike.
Gwamnishu reaffirmed the resolve of security stakeholders and community leaders to sustain the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the area, stressing that criminals would not be allowed to find safe haven in Delta communities.
