Rotarian Victor Giwa PHF, the 11th President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate, has been celebrated for leaving behind a legacy of impactful service, compassion and purposeful leadership during his tenure in office.
Rotarian Giwa formally handed over the leadership of the club to Rotarian Anya Chukwu on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during a colourful Handing Over/Taking Over ceremony attended by club members, guests and well-wishers.
Members of the club described Rotarian Giwa as a lively, jovial and warm personality whose leadership style blended friendliness, generosity and a deep sense of humour with firmness, discipline and a strong determination to get things done. According to them, while he remained approachable and cheerful, he could also be tough when necessary, especially on issues concerning the growth, welfare and progress of the club.
Before emerging as President, Rotarian Giwa, a Paul Harris Fellow, had already distinguished himself as a committed Rotarian who contributed immensely to the success of his predecessors. He was said to have devoted his time, money and other resources to the implementation of laudable monthly projects of the club as well as activities at the district level. Members noted that it was this undeniable humanitarian service and unwavering dedication that paved the way for his emergence as the 11th President of the club.
From the moment he assumed office, Rotarian Giwa was said to have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, a deep love for humanity and a practical commitment to community development, values that reflect Rotary’s ideal of Service Above Self.
Under his administration, the club carried out several impactful humanitarian projects. One of the major interventions was the donation of two wheelchairs to the maternity ward of Jericho Maternity Home in honour of the late Rotarian Kunle Olowu. The gesture was aimed at supporting maternal healthcare services and improving the welfare of women and patients at the facility.
In the education sector, the club donated books to Ojoo High School as part of efforts to encourage learning and support academic development among students. The club also provided funds for the Kick Out Polio Now awareness campaign walk in line with Rotary’s global drive to eradicate polio.
In further demonstration of its humanitarian commitment, food items were donated the Mercy of God Orphanage to support vulnerable children and extend care to the less privileged.
For community development, Rotarian Giwa’s tenure also witnessed a partnership with GVA Telecommunications to provide a cubicle in the club house for affordable internet connection for residents of the Bodija community and its environs.
Beyond community-based interventions, Rotarian Giwa was credited with strengthening the club’s presence and participation in district Rotary activities. During his tenure, the club co-sponsored the District Friendship Exchange, made donations to Inner Wheel District 913, and supported the Family of Rotary Family Health Week.
He also ensured that the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate remained in good standing through the timely payment of Rotary International dues, district dues and other statutory levies. Giwa further provided funds for the club’s participation in the District Rotary Foundation Dinner and supported attendance at district conventions and other major Rotary events.
One of the defining highlights of his administration was the induction of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as an honorary member of the club. His tenure also witnessed the admission of additional new members, a development members said further strengthened the club’s visibility, relevance and future growth.
Club members also praised Rotarian Giwa for his personal sacrifices and unwavering support for the welfare of the club. He was credited with providing support for clubhouse needs, sponsoring food and drinks during meetings, and making deliberate efforts to attract visitors to fellowship and improve attendance.
Those who worked closely with him described him as a president who was always present, physically and financially committed to service, and passionate about seeing the club succeed. According to them, his lively nature often brought energy and excitement to fellowship, while his firmness ensured discipline, accountability and progress.
“He is a very jovial person who knows how to relate with people and carry everyone along, but he can also be tough when the situation demands it. That balance made his leadership unique and effective,” a member of the club said.
Observers within the club noted that Rotarian Giwa’s tenure stood out for its blend of compassion, commitment, discipline and practical service, adding that his leadership has left a lasting imprint on the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate.
