Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu Metropolis Commissions Borehole to End Water Scarcity in Ajule Community

The Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu Metropolis has commissioned a borehole water supply project for residents of Ajule Community in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, bringing lasting relief to the community after years of inadequate access to clean and safe drinking water.
The project was officially inaugurated on Friday, July 17, 2026. It was executed through a District Grant facilitated by the Immediate Past District Governor of Rotary International District 9126, Rotarian FunkeAkpo Ken Batife, under the 2025–2026 Rotary Year themed “Unite for Good.” The project was implemented by the Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu Metropolis in collaboration with ADECOM College of Business and Management Studies.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu Metropolis, Rotarian Momoh Ismail, expressed appreciation to the Immediate Past District Governor, District 9126 Rotarian FunkeAkpo Ken Batife, for facilitating the district grant that made the life-changing project possible.
He said the borehole had addressed the community’s long-standing challenge of water scarcity and demonstrated Rotary International’s unwavering commitment to improving lives through sustainable humanitarian service projects.
According to him, Rotary, as a global humanitarian and service organisation, remains committed to supporting communities through initiatives that promote access to clean water, improved sanitation, better health and enhanced quality of life.
Rotarian Ismail explained that Ajule Community was selected after a comprehensive needs assessment revealed the acute shortage of potable water in the area.
“The community was chosen after a needs assessment indicated that it was in dire need of potable water. To ensure the sustainability of the project, a community committee has been established to oversee the proper use and maintenance of the borehole. Our club will continue to maintain a cordial relationship with the community and monitor the facility to ensure it serves the people for many years,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to cultivate the spirit of compassion by looking out for one another and supporting those in need.
“If I care about you and love you, I should know what you need. If I have the capacity to help solve that problem, I should do so. That is how we spread love, strengthen our communities and make the world a better place. This is what Rotary International stands for, Rotary International members go about providing good roads, health facilities, and many more for the betterment of humanity ” he added.
Rotarian Ismail also called on governments at all levels to complement the efforts of humanitarian organisations by providing critical infrastructure, including potable water, good roads, healthcare facilities and other basic amenities in underserved rural communities.
Commissioning the project, the Immediate Past District Governor of Rotary International District 9126, Rotarian Funke Akpo Ken Batife, urged residents to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper maintenance. He noted that the community had suffered years of water scarcity but expressed confidence that the new borehole would significantly improve access to safe drinking water, reduce water-related diseases and enhance the overall well-being of residents.
The traditional ruler of Ajule Community, Baale Adeniyi Yusuf, expressed profound appreciation to Rotary International, District 9126 under the leadership of IPDG Ken Batife, ,the Rotary Club of Ibadan Elebu Metropolis and its partners for bringing the much-needed intervention to the community.
He described the borehole as a life-changing project that would improve the health and welfare of residents while reducing the burden of searching for water.
Baale Yusuf assured the donors that the community would safeguard the facility and ensure its proper maintenance for the benefit of present and future generations.
He said ” My heart is filled with so much joy today seeing this project become a reality. This water will bring so much succour to our people . I thank them from the depth of my heart for this initiative. I overjoyed and I pray for Rotary International to continue to go higher”.
He also appealed to other corporate organisations, philanthropists and development partners to emulate Rotary International by supporting impactful community development projects capable of improving the living conditions of rural dwellers across the country.
The commissioning ceremony attracted Rotary members, community leaders, traditional chiefs, residents and other stakeholders, who described the project as a major milestone in Rotary’s humanitarian service and a significant contribution to sustainable community development in Oyo State.
