Kitan Murder: Suspects Confess as CP Ojajuni Leads Swift Crackdown, Arrests Three

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of prominent businesswoman, Mrs. Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, with the arrest of three suspects who have allegedly confessed to their involvement in the gruesome crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, barely days after the shocking double murder rocked the state.
The police boss attributed the swift arrest of the suspects to a combination of intelligence-led policing, forensic investigation and the determination of detectives who worked round the clock to unravel the crime.
According to Ojajuni, the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, confessed during interrogation that he masterminded the attack and recruited two accomplices, identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he harboured resentment against the deceased from the period he worked as a security guard in her residence and allegedly planned the attack to “teach her a lesson.”
Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly struck on June 20, overpowering the security guard before gaining access to the residence. They reportedly attacked Mrs. Oyesiku and later killed Adetayo before escaping with the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV.
CP Ojajuni explained that immediately after the incident was reported on June 21, the Command launched an intensive manhunt, deploying intelligence assets and forensic experts to track those responsible.
A major breakthrough came when detectives recovered a handwritten note at the crime scene. Forensic analysis of the document provided critical leads that guided investigators to the suspects.
The Command’s efforts yielded another success on June 22 when operatives recovered the stolen Lexus SUV at Onikolobo area of Abeokuta. Although the suspects had removed the number plates and ignition key in an apparent bid to conceal the vehicle’s identity, detectives discovered the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats.
Acting on fresh intelligence, operatives arrested Philip at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, on June 24. His confession subsequently led investigators to Ayoola and Obafunsho, who were also apprehended in coordinated operations.
Further searches conducted by detectives led to the recovery of several exhibits believed to have been used during the attack, including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank and a black pen.
Ojajuni commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved in the operation, noting that the speedy arrest of the suspects demonstrates the Command’s resolve to combat violent crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the commissioner stated.
The successful resolution of the case within days of the incident has drawn commendation from residents, who described the swift police response as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing under the leadership of CP Bode Ojajuni.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue and preparations are made for their prosecution.
