There was palpable excitement and an atmosphere of celebration on Thursday as Rotarian Ojo Jimoh officially took over as the 12th President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Oritamefa during a colourful Handover Fellowship that attracted a large turnout of Rotarians, dignitaries, family members, friends and well-wishers.
The impressive attendance was widely regarded as a strong show of solidarity for the new president and a reflection of the confidence members and supporters have in his ability to lead the club to greater heights in the new Rotary year.
From the commencement of the fellowship, guests filled the venue, eager to witness the transition of leadership and celebrate with Rotarian Jimoh as he assumed one of the most important responsibilities in the club. The mood was festive, with members expressing optimism about the future under his leadership.
A major highlight of the event was the formal handover ceremony, conducted with the participation of past presidents of the club, symbolising continuity, experience and support for the incoming administration. The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of the President of Presidents, Rotarian Adewale Adesina, whose attendance underscored the significance of the occasion.
As Rotarian Jimoh received the mantle of leadership from the outgoing president, Rotarian Ogundiran, applause and cheers erupted from members and guests, many of whom described the moment as a fitting reward for a Rotarian known for his dedication, commitment and service to the ideals of Rotary.
In his acceptance remarks, Rotarian Jimoh expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support shown by members and guests, describing the large turnout as both humbling and inspiring.
He pledged to uphold the values of Rotary International and build on the achievements of previous administrations through impactful projects and programmes that would positively affect communities.
“The support and encouragement I have received today are truly overwhelming. I am honoured by the confidence reposed in me and I look forward to working with all members to advance our mission of service above self,” he said.
Many of the guests who attended the fellowship spoke glowingly of Rotarian Jimoh’s leadership qualities, describing him as a team player with a passion for community service and humanitarian causes. They expressed confidence that his tenure would usher in fresh opportunities for growth, fellowship and greater community impact.
The outgoing president, Rotarian Ogundiran, congratulated his successor and thanked members for their support throughout his tenure. He urged them to rally behind the new president to ensure the continued progress of the club.
As the fellowship drew to a close, the sense of optimism and enthusiasm among members was unmistakable. For many attendees, the event was not only a celebration of leadership transition but also a reaffirmation of the club’s commitment to service, friendship and community development.
