*A Birthday With Deeper Meaning*

For Omorowe-Nwune, choosing her birthday to launch the book was deliberate. At 45, she said, she wanted to do more than count years; she wanted to make her years count.

“My 45th birthday represents an important milestone in my life. I felt it was appropriate to use the occasion to share something meaningful with society,” she told guests.

That meaningful gift is a book that confronts a reality many families face but few discuss openly — what happens when families fall apart.

The author, a Medical Laboratory Scientist and Public Health Practitioner at UCH, Ibadan, currently serves as Secretary of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Oritamefa. She is also a writer and media enthusiast whose interests span family well-being, youth development and community health. Her professional work has exposed her to issues of human well-being, while her community service through Rotary has brought her closer to the everyday struggles of individuals and families.

But _When Families Fall Apart_ comes from a more personal place.

*From Personal Pain to Public Purpose*

Omorowe-Nwune has lived the realities she writes about. She speaks openly about experiencing childhood trauma, growing up in a broken home, and later going through marital separation.

Rather than allow those experiences to define her negatively, she has chosen to channel them into encouragement for others who may be walking a similar path.

“The book represents the transformation of my pain into purpose,” she said.

“I know what it means to experience childhood trauma, grow up in a broken home and go through marital separation. But I also know that it is possible to rebuild,” she added. “I wrote this book to give hope to people experiencing difficult family situations and to encourage them not to allow conflict, pain or separation to permanently destroy relationships.”

According to her, the book was inspired by both her professional experience and her personal journey. Her experiences made her realise that many men, women and children are going through similar situations and often need someone to remind them that a difficult chapter does not mean their story has ended.

“When Families Fall Apart is another dimension of that passion. Instead of simply telling my own story, I wanted to create something that could speak to people going through painful family experiences and provide them with hope and practical guidance,” she explained.

*What the Book Addresses*

_When Families Fall Apart_ examines the emotional and social challenges that can lead to strained or broken family relationships. It goes beyond simply identifying problems to promoting communication, forgiveness, healing, reconciliation and rebuilding as pathways towards restoring families.

The book explores themes such as separation, divorce, bereavement, family conflict and other difficult transitions. It addresses questions that often confront people experiencing such disruptions, including how to cope emotionally, how to help children adjust, and how to rebuild one’s life socially and spiritually.

One of its distinguishing features is its combination of socio-psychological perspectives, African and Nigerian cultural realities, and biblical and spiritual guidance. Each chapter includes real-life scenarios, practical guidance, devotional reflections, counselling exercises and questions designed to encourage readers to reflect on their own experiences.

The author said the book is targeted at a broad readership — men and women experiencing marital separation, divorced individuals, widows and widowers, single parents, and children adjusting to changes within the family.

It is also a useful resource for counsellors, pastors, educators, caregivers and community leaders who work with vulnerable families.

The publication can be read as a sequential healing journey, or according to a reader’s particular situation. It can also serve as material for group discussions, counselling sessions and fellowship settings.

Above all, the book seeks to stimulate honest conversations about family challenges and encourage individuals to move beyond blame towards understanding, healing and reconciliation.

*Guests Commend the Book*

The launch attracted commendations from guests who described the subject as relevant, timely and necessary.

Reviewing the book, Professor Kester Kehinde, Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, highlighted its relevance to contemporary family relationships and stressed the need for society to pay greater attention to issues affecting families. He noted that in a time when family structures are under increasing pressure, conversations like the one the book initiates are crucial.

The publisher, Mrs Adejoke Oyekan of Purple Boom Publishers, described the publication as a timely contribution to conversations about family relationships, conflict and healing.

Oyekan noted that books dealing with real-life family experiences could help readers better understand the factors responsible for family breakdown, its consequences, and encourage constructive approaches to resolving conflicts.

Also speaking at the occasion, the President of Rotary Club of Ibadan Oritamefa, Rotarian Ojo Jimoh, recommended the book to members of the public, noting that issues affecting families deserve greater attention because of the central role the family plays in society. For a club committed to service and community development, he said, the book aligns with the need to strengthen the basic unit of society.

The gathering of UCH colleagues, church members, Rotarians, friends and family members provided not just an audience for a book launch, but a community of support that underscored the significance of both the personal milestone and the literary contribution.

*A Message of Hope That Endures*

At the heart of _When Families Fall Apart_ is a conviction that has carried the author through her own journey: that family disruption does not have to be the end of a person’s story.

Omorowe-Nwune wants people experiencing family difficulties to understand that their emotions are valid, healing takes time, and seeking support should not be regarded as a sign of weakness.

Her message extends to people who may feel trapped by their past or overwhelmed by the consequences of family breakdown.

“Family change may be a painful chapter, but it does not have to be the final sentence of someone’s life,” she said.

And if there is one line she hopes readers will remember long after they close the book, it is this:

“Your story is not over. There is still hope, and you can rebuild.”

She added that if someone reads the book during one of the darkest periods of their life and finds the courage to continue, seek help, rebuild and hope again, then the purpose of writing it would have been achieved.
