A dramatic ₦150 million mansion robbery in Abuja has drawn national attention after police uncovered details of how a suspected domestic worker allegedly orchestrated the operation from inside the residence.
The suspect, identified as John Cosmos Govi, is accused of carrying out the carefully planned heist after gaining the trust of residents while working as a chef in the upscale Abuja home.
According to investigators, the robbery was not a random attack but a calculated operation allegedly executed after weeks of surveillance and preparation from within the household.
Police said the suspect allegedly monitored the daily movement of residents, studied the building’s security system, and identified vulnerable points before striking on April 23, 2026.
Authorities believe the operation began when food served inside the residence was allegedly laced with a suspected sedative substance. The substance reportedly rendered both residents and security personnel unconscious, creating an opportunity for the gang to move freely inside the property.
Once the victims were incapacitated, the suspect allegedly opened access for accomplices who stormed the residence and carried out the robbery.
Investigators said the gang disabled the property’s CCTV surveillance system before thoroughly ransacking the mansion.
The suspects reportedly escaped with cash and 20 luxury wristwatches valued at approximately ₦150 million, making it one of the most audacious residential robberies recently reported in the Federal Capital Territory.
Police operatives later tracked and intercepted the suspects along the Gwagwalada axis while they were allegedly attempting to flee toward Lagos.
During the operation, authorities recovered an iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to one of the victims, while a suspected chemical substance believed to have been used in the operation was also seized for forensic analysis.
Two alleged accomplices, identified simply as Peter and Moses, remain at large as investigations continue.
Security experts say the incident highlights the growing risks associated with insider involvement in high-value residential crimes, particularly where domestic staff have unrestricted access to private homes and sensitive security information.
The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the stolen valuables.
