The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the command’s determination to disrupt vehicle theft and other highway crimes, following the arrest of a suspected vehicle theft kingpin and recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry in the Mowe area of the state.
Ojajuni, who commended police operatives for their vigilance and swift response, said the command would sustain proactive policing, routine patrols and lawful stop-and-search operations to protect lives and property and prevent criminals from using Ogun highways as escape routes.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mosuru Issa, was arrested by operatives of the Mowe Division during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday, September 11, 2026.
According to the command, the operatives were conducting routine patrol and stop-and-search operations at about 7:30am when they flagged down a wine-coloured Toyota Camry for a security check.
However, the three occupants of the vehicle allegedly abandoned the car and fled in different directions immediately after sighting the police.
The operatives reportedly pursued the fleeing occupants, leading to the arrest of Issa, who resides on Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State.
The police subsequently secured the vehicle and recovered it.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota Camry was allegedly stolen on September 7, 2026, from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.
The development, according to the police, demonstrates the importance of proactive policing, routine patrols and effective stop-and-search operations in detecting criminal activities and recovering stolen property.
The command said efforts were ongoing to locate the owner of the recovered vehicle and apprehend the two other occupants who escaped.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Ojajuni, while commending the operatives, described their action as an example of the importance of vigilance and professionalism in frontline policing.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained operations against vehicle theft, highway robbery and other criminal activities across Ogun State.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police through the Gateway Shield Toll-Free Line, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464.
He further advised vehicle owners to strengthen the security of their vehicles by using tyre locks, steering locks and other appropriate anti-theft devices, particularly when parking in public or unsecured locations.
The police urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in preventing crime and facilitating the arrest of fleeing suspects.
