Dr. Idowu Olowokere Bags Rotary Distinguished Excellence Award for Outstanding Leadership and Humanitarian Service

Dr. Idowu Olowokere, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Medical Director of God’s Knox Hospital, Ologuneru, Ibadan, has been honoured with the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate Distinguished Excellence Award for Outstanding Leadership and Humanitarian Service, particularly for his contributions to fertility treatment and maternal and child health.
The award was presented to Dr. Olowokere by the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate during the investiture ceremony of Rotarian Anya Chukwu as the 12th President of the club, held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the Rotary Club House, Oluyole Way, off Favos Bus Stop, New Bodija, Ibadan.
The award recognised Dr. Olowokere’s humanitarian service in the area of fertility treatment and his role in developing God’s Knox Hospital into a leading fertility healthcare facility that has recorded significant achievements in assisted reproductive medicine and maternal and child health, including consistent improvements in IVF success rates, expansion of its fertility and maternity services, establishment of a modern embryology and reproductive medicine unit, and the successful delivery of over 158 IVF and surrogacy babies, alongside strengthened antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care services that have reduced complications and improved outcomes for mothers and newborns.
Speaking during the occasion, the President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate, Rotarian Anya Chukwu, said Dr. Olowokere deserved the honour because of his commitment to improving lives through his medical profession, humanitarian interventions and support for community development.
Chukwu said the doctor’s work in fertility treatment had provided hope to many families facing challenges with conception, while his contribution to maternal and child healthcare had also made a positive impact on society.
He noted that Dr. Olowokere’s contribution to the Rotary Club went beyond the lecture he delivered on fertility and reproductive health, revealing that the medical practitioner also made a financial donation to support the club’s humanitarian projects.
According to Chukwu, the donation demonstrated Dr. Olowokere’s willingness to support initiatives beyond his immediate professional responsibilities and contribute directly to projects designed to improve the lives of people in the community.
The Rotary president commended the doctor for combining professional excellence with humanitarian service, saying his support for the club’s projects further demonstrated his commitment to service to humanity.
Dr. Olowokere had earlier delivered a lecture organised by the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate as part of its activities on maternal and child health. The lecture, titled “Fertility Postponement: Implications for Future Reproductive Outcomes — The IVF and Surrogacy Options,” focused on the implications of delaying childbearing and the reproductive options available to individuals and couples.
During the lecture, he explained the relationship between age and female fertility and encouraged people to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
He also discussed fertility preservation and assisted reproductive technologies, including in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and surrogacy, as options available to people experiencing fertility challenges.
The medical expert disclosed that God’s Knox Hospital’s fertility arm, established about six years ago, had recorded significant achievements, with more than 158 babies reportedly born through IVF and surrogacy, alongside growing recognition for its structured fertility care pathway, improved laboratory standards, and increasing success in complex infertility cases.
The hospital, which celebrated its 12th anniversary on July 6, has continued to expand its services in fertility treatment and reproductive healthcare, with its work contributing to maternal and child health. Over the years, it has also achieved milestones such as the introduction of advanced reproductive technologies, improved patient support systems, community fertility awareness programmes, and strengthened maternal care services that have positioned it as a referral centre for fertility and women’s health services in the region.
The Rotary Club said the award was therefore not only a recognition of Dr. Olowokere’s professional accomplishments but also an appreciation of his humanitarian contribution to families and society through fertility treatment, healthcare education and financial support for community projects.
Chukwu said the club was particularly interested in honouring individuals whose professional activities and personal contributions have a direct impact on humanity, adding that Dr. Olowokere’s work and support aligned with Rotary’s commitment to maternal and child health and service to humanity.
The presentation of the Distinguished Excellence Award formed part of the activities marking the investiture of Rotarian Anya Chukwu as the 12th President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate for the 2026/2027 Rotary year.
The ceremony attracted Rotarians, Rotaractors, Inner Wheel members, members of the National Youth Service Corps, healthcare professionals, family members, friends and other guests.
The Rotary Club described Dr. Olowokere as a worthy recipient whose leadership in fertility treatment, contribution to maternal and child health, support for Rotary projects and commitment to humanitarian service have made a meaningful difference in the lives of many families.
Responding to the honour, Dr. Olowokere expressed deep appreciation to the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate for the recognition, describing the award as both humbling and encouraging. He said the gesture would further strengthen his commitment to advancing fertility care, improving maternal and child health outcomes, and continuing to serve humanity through medical practice and community support initiatives. He dedicated the award to his team, patients, and all families who have trusted God’s Knox Hospital on their fertility journey.
The award, the club noted, was intended to celebrate his achievements and encourage him to continue using his medical expertise, healthcare platform and personal resources to provide hope, improve reproductive health outcomes and contribute to the wellbeing of mothers, children and families.
