Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige Donates Birthing Kits, Medical Supplies to Ago-Tapa Primary Health Centre

The Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige has donated several birthing kits and other essential maternal and child healthcare items to the Ago-Tapa Primary Health Centre, Ibadan, in a renewed effort to improve safe childbirth, strengthen primary healthcare services and support the wellbeing of mothers and newborns in the community.
The outreach brought together health workers, nursing mother and members of the Rotary Club, who witnessed the presentation of several sterile birthing kits, digital thermometers, infant and adult weighing scales, bed sheets, pillowcases, gloves and other consumable medical supplies needed for quality antenatal, delivery and postnatal care.
The birthing kits are expected to support safer deliveries, reduce the risk of infections and ease the financial burden on expectant mothers who often struggle to purchase essential delivery materials before childbirth.
Speaking during the presentation, the President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige, Rotarian Oyewole Bankole, said the intervention was in line with Rotary International’s commitment to maternal and child health, one of the organisation’s seven areas of focus.
He said the club identified the needs of the health centre after engaging with its management and resolved to provide items that would have an immediate impact on healthcare delivery.
According to Bankole, the project demonstrates Rotary’s determination to complement government efforts in providing quality healthcare, particularly for pregnant women, nursing mothers and newborn babies.
“At Rotary, we believe that no woman should lose her life while giving birth and no child should be denied a healthy start because of inadequate healthcare. Through projects like this, we are complementing government efforts and creating lasting impact in our communities,” he said.
He explained that the donation was not a one-off intervention, assuring the management of the health centre that the club would continue to support the facility through future humanitarian projects.
“Our intervention today is only another step in our partnership with this health centre. We believe healthcare support should be continuous because the needs of mothers and children are continuous. We will continue to identify areas where we can make meaningful and lasting impact,” Bankole added.
The Rotary president recalled that the club had previously donated and installed a solar-powered electricity system at the health centre to improve service delivery during power outages and night-time emergencies.
He noted that the solar installation had enabled health workers to attend to women in labour and other emergency cases without interruption, significantly improving the quality of healthcare services at the facility.
Bankole also unveiled the club’s long-term vision of partnering with government, corporate organisations, philanthropists and development partners to construct a larger and better-equipped primary health centre capable of meeting the growing healthcare needs of Ago-Tapa and neighbouring communities.
He said the proposed facility would provide improved maternity services, better working conditions for healthcare professionals and increased access to quality healthcare for residents.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Ago-Tapa Primary Health Centre Mrs Bolarinwa expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige for its consistent support, describing the donation as timely, thoughtful and impactful.
The health official said the birthing kits would particularly benefit expectant mothers who often find it difficult to afford the materials required for safe delivery, while the thermometers, weighing scales, bed sheets, pillowcases and other supplies would enhance patient care and improve service delivery.
The official also commended the club for its earlier donation of solar-powered lighting, describing it as a lifesaving intervention that has enabled health workers to provide uninterrupted care during night deliveries and periods of electricity failure.
Several nursing mothers who benefited from the outreach described the donation as a major relief, especially in view of the increasing cost of healthcare and childbirth materials.
One of the beneficiaries said many pregnant women struggle to purchase the items required for delivery, making the donation of birthing kits particularly significant.
“The birthing kits will help many women like us. Some pregnant women cannot afford all the items they are asked to bring for delivery because everything is now expensive. This donation has taken away part of that burden and has given us confidence that we will receive quality care when it is time to give birth,” she said.
Another nursing mother praised the Rotary Club for its continued commitment to the health centre.
“The solar lights donated earlier have made a big difference because nurses can now attend to women who come in labour at night without interruption. With these birthing kits, thermometers, weighing scales, bed sheets and pillowcases, mothers and babies will receive even better care. We sincerely appreciate the Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige for remembering our community,” she said.
