Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspects, including an alleged military impostor and a suspected cultist, in separate operations that led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Enugu.
According to the statement, one of the suspects, Victory Chinecherem Chukwuebuka Anyegbulam, aged 20, was arrested on April 26, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. along Naira Triangle on Abakaliki Road during a routine patrol by operatives attached to the Command’s Department of Operations.
Items recovered from the suspect include a cut-to-size gun, two live cartridges, and a substance suspected to be cannabis. Police said the suspect confessed to being a member of the Neo Black Confraternity, also known as “Aye.”
In a separate operation carried out on April 23, 2026, at about 1:42 p.m., operatives arrested Uzondu Chiemezie Emmanuel, aged 34, along Unity Estate/Loma Linda Road in Enugu.
A locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol was recovered from him. The suspect initially claimed to be a serving member of the Nigerian Air Force but later confessed during interrogation that he had been dismissed after deserting the Force.
The police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies by providing useful information.
The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the Command to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order across the state.
